Classes at terraforma
Classes can be booked for individuals or groups of 2 to 6 persons.
Larger groups can also be accommodated, but sessions will be longer.
All sessions take place on our shaded picnic tables on Trellis Bay beach at TerraForma.
No set calendar: just give me a call to arrange a date and time for your group. Glazing is done by TerraForma, finished pieces are ready 3-4 weeks after class. Shipping can be arranged, prices for shipping are not included in cost of class.
intro to pottery #3:
slab and wheel Bundle
Approximately 2 hours
$120/person.
Make a sushi tray and 2-3 small press dishes using the slab roller. Explore mark-making and texture in the soft clay.
Try your hand at the potter’s wheel, making a thrown bowl.
All your pieces will be glazed and fired by TerraForma for you to collect in 3 weeks’ time.
potter’s wheel learning sessions
One to One only. Not available for groups as yet.
Throwing is best taught in pairs of lessons. It takes two sessions to complete a batch of pots; one session for throwing (forming a vessel with soft clay on the wheel), then one session the next day for turning (the carving away of excess clay on the base of the pot). Like throwing, turning is also performed on the potter’s wheel, however it is after the clay has firmed to “leather-hard” consistency.
Each 1 hour session is $125.00
- Price includes the glazing and firing by TerraForma of learner’s pots made during the sessions, up to 5lbs of clay per session. Any additional pots students wish to have fired are charged at $20/lb.
Session 3:
· Centering clay on the wheel
· Tailored to individual ability, student will try throwing with less assistance (but still full supervision) from instructor
· Assisted throwing with larger amount of clay
Session 4 – the next day:
· Trimming and finishing all remaining pottery.
Optional 5th Session – Glazing:
The cost of glazing and firing the student’s work by TerraForma is included in the price of the making sessions, but should the student want to do the glazing of their pieces themselves instead, they can opt for a 5th session to do so.
· Basic glazing techniques
· Mixing, dipping, using tongs
· Fully supervised
· Satisfying, but slightly riskier outcomes.
